Expressing faith through service to the community.

The Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church, located in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, provides many valuable outreach programs to the neighboring community. These programs include after-school enrichment for youths, mentoring to older students, senior citizen programs and much more. All of these programs keep the building in constant use, which is reflected in its substantial utility bills. Gas usage alone for a four-month period costs $14,000!

After a provided energy audit was completed, Interfaith Works funded several of the recommended improvements, including an upgrade to energy efficient lighting and sanctuary attic insulation. The resulting savings will enable Wesley Center to increase funding for community outreach efforts.

Interfaith Works continues to work with Wesley Center to fund other necessary improvements. A fundraising campaign has been initiated to raise $60,000 to replace the boiler system, which is extremely antiquated and twice the size needed to heat the facilities. Upon replacement, the Church will save from 40 to 60% in fuel bills annually and the system will pay for itself within the next 5 years. The savings created can fund Wesley Center’s much needed outreach programs.
